From the age of 16, he took on various odd jobs just to help his mother. She also worked hard, giving her all to the family. This went on for many years. The younger ones grew up, became independent, and Valeriy’s money continued to go into the family budget. But he did not resent this; he believed it should be this way. By their hard work, they gathered money for start-up capital for Valeriy’s brother.

The mother’s will to her son
The younger children attended the funeral. Valeriy was glad that they came at least to see their mother off on her last journey. However, he did not want to talk to them. Because in the 6 years of their mother’s illness, they never once called or came. And, as Valeriy realized after the funeral, they were not so much concerned about their mother as about her three-room apartment. They offered to buy out their shares of the apartment. They hinted that if they did not get agreement, they would go to court.
The man was depressed. Because he knew that he would have to sell the apartment. He did not have the money to pay for their part of the apartment. When he returned home, he noticed the bundle on the table. He opened it and was surprised. Inside was a solid pack of money and a letter. He opened it.
In it, his mother informed him that he was not her biological son. During her first pregnancy, she had a miscarriage. Then she and his father decided to adopt a child. She thanked him for staying with her and also asked for forgiveness for not being able to tell him the whole truth personally.
Also included in the letter was a will. It stated that the accumulated money should be divided equally among her younger children. The apartment, however, was to go to Valeriy without the right to divide the property. Valeriy was stunned by such a quantity of news in one day. His wife, who had just entered the room, was scared. He was pale.
He discussed the situation with her. Elena gently smiled and said, «Does it really make a difference that you are not blood relatives? You were closer to her than anyone. That’s what matters most!» With the appearance of the will, the situation changed. Valeriy honestly divided the money among the younger ones. They, though dissatisfied, backed off. Valeriy finally began to build his own family life.
